    Hydroxychloroquine with methotrexate

Also had to have an occupational health meeting today for my job as not worked for 6 months now and hoping they make me redundant as i can't work as a waitress with ra due to pain and flares in my opinion. (others may do) and i then can get benefits till i find a job i can do with the ra(i am not doing this just for benefits, i hope people understand that) I have now been on Plaq for just over three years and MTX for just under three years.

Combination therapy with methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine for rheumatoid arthritis increases exposure to methotrexate. Combination therapy with methotrexate and hydroxychloroquine for rheumatoid arthritis increases exposure to methotrexate. The use of hydroxychloroquine plus methotrexate is also an option for patients with high disease activity without poor prognostic features. For established disease, DMARD combination therapy is an option for patients with low disease activity and poor prognostic features or with moderate or high disease activity regardless of poor prognostic feature presence. Hello hope everyone is well just a quick question, i have been on methotrexate for 2 months increasing from 7.5 to 15 and now to 25mg.weekly now been given plaquenil 400mg daily, has anyone else been on this mixture and has it worked or how long should i wait to see if it works.

My Rheumy suggested MTX and told me it would be months before we knew for sure it would work. The combination works well for me-though I also take a NSAID. I started feeling better about a month after starting plaq-I was also on prednisone at the time-but couldn't get all the way well.

  4. Hydroxychloroquine is a disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug DMARD approved for adults with RA. It is often given in combination with methotrexate and sulfasalazine a treatment known as triple therapy, to help slow RA disease progression for patients who do not get relief from methotrexate therapy alone.

As the addition of Hydroxychloroquine to my cocktail methotrexate and Enbrel Anti-TNF, didn't seem to be making any difference, I stopped it a few weeks ago. Maybe my fingers are a tiny, tiny bit more swollen, but the black cloud has lifted and the nausea disappeared, so I am far better off without it. If you aren’t responding to methotrexate after a two-month period, your rheumatologist may try some kind of combination therapy, such as adding sulfasalazine and hydroxychloroquine called triple therapy or adding a biologic drug such as etanercept Enbrel, adalimumab Humira, or infliximab Remicade. Dec 28, 2017 I haven't had any issues with Plaquenil, and I've been on it for 13 years. Be sure you get your eyes checked regularly for Plaquenil toxicity, a very rare side effect that can affect your vision, but is usually reversible if caught early. I know Plaquenil has helped me a ton, because I tried going off of it once to see if I really needed it.
