Its been nearly seven years since my I first started getting hives. It started out of the blue and it didn't start small. So this would explain why I have awful hives everywhere.

Nov 09, 2018 Hydroxychloroquine is used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites that enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Malaria is common in areas such as Africa, South America, and Southern Asia. This medicine is not effective against all strains of malaria. The response to prednisone and rapidity of response suggests that the swelling is histamine dependent. I suspect that the angioedema is unrelated to the tingling of the tongue or the hydroxychloroquine. Since the disease being treated successfully is serious, I do not feel you must discontinue the hydroxychloroquine. Urticaria and angioedema are often seen together in allergic reactions to foods and drugs including anaphylaxis, both may be present in the physically induced urticarias although hives predominate, or in patients with chronic idiopathic or autoimmune urticaria/angioedema.

My lips would swell to the size of sausages and my eyes would swell shut. (except for the steriods, which I can't stay on for a more than a few weeks.) I was given epipens in case of an emergency and sent home to wallow in pain. I went to a new allergist just today and he finally gave me an answer for what could be causing my hives. But I'm only just getting to best part (no sarcasm intended). I was rendered unable to walk most times because the hives swell over my ankles and knees making them painfully impossible to move. My arms, legs, feet, back, hands, belly, and chest. I may be taking nearly six a day, but they are working. Hashimoto's thyroiditis is an autoimmune disease in which the thyroid gland is attacked by a variety of cell- and antibody-mediated immune processes. So now I have to go in for more testing (yay :[ ) to see if I have said disease.

Plaquenil hydroxychloroquine is an antimalarial medication used to treat or prevent malaria, a disease caused by parasites, which enter the body through the bite of a mosquito. Plaquenil is also used to treat symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis and discoid or systemic lupus erythematosus. Urticaria is the medical name for hives. These are welts; pink swellings that come up on any part of the skin. They itch and each individual hive lasts a few hours before fading away, leaving no trace. New hives appear as old areas fade. They can be pea sized or join to cover broad areas of the body.
