Between plaquenil and CellCept, my joint pains and sun reaction are no longer a problem. My Sjogrens dryness is improved as well. CellCept is a newer drug for our purpose, but it's the basic drug for patients with organ transplants. They take it in higher doses for life. I don't have Rx coverage on my insurance and I think CellCept is more $$ than MTX. Three anti-malarial drugs are prescribed for lupus symptoms. Hydroxychloroquine Plaquenil is the most commonly prescribed because it is generally believed to cause fewer side effects; chloroquine Aralen has a reputation for more serious side effects, but it may be prescribed in situations where hydroxychloroquine cannot be used. Sarcoidosis is a chronic inflammatory granulomatous dis- ease that primarily affects the lungs, although multi-organ involvement is common. The etiology of sarcoidosis is not clear; however, genetic and environmental factors probably play a role in the development and expression of the disease.

Cellcept is an immunosupressant. We take it for Sjogrens to reduce the reactions of our over active immune system. However it leads us vulnerable to infections. If you have an infection, you want your immune system to be working at a high level, to attack the bug that is causing the infection. CellCept® or mycophenolate mofetil, is a medication that was first prescribed to treat people who have had an organ transplant. Over the last 15 years, it has been increasingly used more to treat immune disorders, like systemic lupus erythematosus, lupus nephritis, rheumatoid arthritis, scleroderma and other lupus overlap diseases. What is Cellcept? Cellcept has active ingredients of mycophenolate mofetil. It is often used in systemic lupus erythematosus. Check the latest outcomes from 28,955 Cellcept users, or browse all drugs. What is Plaquenil? Plaquenil has active ingredients of hydroxychloroquine sulfate. Plaquenil Lichen Planus - Sclero Forums MAIN - Sclero Forums Jun 27, 2018 As it happens, many drugs can cause a lichenoid reaction that results in lichen sclerosus, including plaquenil, beta blockers, and even NSAIDs. However, about 9 out of 10 times, plaquenil is effective in *treating* lichen planus, so it's sort of a double-edged sword, with the odds far in favor of plaquenil helping more than hurting.
